National Mutt Day

National Mutt Day is celebrated twice a year on July 31st and December 2nd to help raise awareness for all of the mixed-breed dogs out there that are seeking a loving home. Here are the top 5 reasons why you should consider rescuing a mutt:

  1. They are unique

Mixed breeds are so special because there’s no two dogs alike. Even two dogs from the same litter could turn out looking different! There isn’t another dog out there that will look just like yours.

  1. They are affordable

Dogs can be very expensive, sometimes costing up to thousands of dollars. This doesn’t even include the long-term care, like food and vet visits, that adds up over time. Shelter dogs only cost a small adoption fee and sometimes nothing at all, so you can put that extra cash into SPOILING YOUR PUP once he gets home!

  1. You can get your dog sooner

When going through a breeder to get your dog, there is often a long process you have to go through and it can take a while before you finally get to bring your dog home. When you visit a shelter, you can usually take your new pup home with you that day.

  1. You’ll raise awareness

National Mutt Day is about raising awareness for these mixed-breed dogs that need a home, and when you rescue a mutt you’ll be contributing to the conversation. When you and your pup GO OUT FOR A WALK or venture out to the dog park, there is always an opportunity for you to talk about him and his mixed-breed. In doing so, you may even persuade someone else to adopt!

  1. You’ll be saving a life

When you adopt a dog from the shelter, you’ll be saving a life. Shelter dogs usually have an unfortunate past and rescuing him from that will cause the two of you to form a special bond. You’ll need to be ready to put in the time and effort to help train your dog and help him to overcome potential temperament issues, but it will be well worth it.

Before rescuing a mutt, you need to do your homework. Adopting a dog is a big responsibility and the decision deserves careful consideration. To find out if you’re ready for this addition to your family, ASK YOURSELF THESE QUESTIONS.
